You could be right it’s just a directive since I’m not an expert in laws. But I do know that EU consumers are very well protected especially in The Netherlands. I have bricked my phone just a week ago and returned it. It was caused by an error in software while trying to backup the phone. Within a few days I received a brand new phone without questions being ask. The only reason why ZTE locks the EU bootloader is because they know that we have extensive consumer protection. In the USA they can unlock the bootloader at request because they are allowed to end warranty. In Europe they sinply can’t so they lock the bootloader to prevent rooting and minimize the risk to pay for damages. As you now initial warranty is not given by ZTE but by the seller. After 2 years in Holland and 1 year in the rest Europe you get factory warranty. If you break our phone within six months after purchase it’s assumed that the failure already existed on the device. Even if the seller proves it’s your fault they don’t have the right to blame you. It’s a civil right but ofcourse can end up in a civil court procedure which you will win (for sure in Holland). There’s also a difference between software and hardware. You may not root your system and keep factory software due to copyright and intellectual property but you are allowed to root your phone and install a different OS. The hardware is yours.

Solange ZTE für da A7 noch Updates bereitstellt werde ich mein Handy nicht rooten bzw. ein anderes Rom aufspielen. Sollte allerdings der Support eingestellt werden ohne die Möglichkeit das Gerät zu rooten bzw. den Bootloader zu öffnen so hat sich das Thema ZTE dann erledigt, dann war das mein erstes und zugleich letztes Gerät von denen. Mal schauen was kommt.
